My happiness project

Anna here!  This year has been a difficult one for me–for the past five years my husband and I have struggled with infertility and were told this past September that having children of our own would most likely never happen for us.  After all the time, money, and energy we put in to making our dreams happen, the news was a difficult pill to swallow.  It was something I never imagined having to deal with.

Since we’ve been going through this for five years, I’ve had time to process all the emotions for a while and, after a lot of sad times, I knew that I’d have to really put forth an effort to make myself happy.  It wasn’t going to come easily.  I read books like The Happiness Project and decided that, for me, happiness comes from exercise, making things (through crafting and baking), writing often, reading often, and staying very, very busy. So busy that I can’t fall into that slump again (well, maybe just not for very long).  My husband is an amazing guy and does all that he can for me, but I knew I had to do this myself.

My sisters came up with the idea of us blogging together, so that made my work even easier.  I love posting here!  Last month I started training for a half-marathon; I’m not a born runner and dreaded the mile in high school gym class, so this was a huge challenge for me.  Today I ran 7.2 miles, farther than I’ve ever run at one time in my life!  I’m shocked my 33 year old body could do that.  We’ll see if I can do the 13.1 miles in February!

And this month I’m participating in National Novel Writing Month.  If you haven’t heard of it, check it out here: NaNoWriMo.org. I’m working on writing 50,000 words during the month of November.  My “novel” started out with just an idea, no plan (which was very scary for a Type A person like me!) but here I am at the halfway point with more than 25,000 words.  So exciting!  It’s not the best thing ever written (far, far from it) but I’m doing it, which they say is all that matters.  Below are my writing buddies–first things first, I had to make my writing space cute!  I hope you are enjoying your day as much as I am.

Anna, I am very impressed with your note. I am so lucky to have you for my daughter (Aaron was very smart to marry you) and wish you all of the best with your future activities. Running a half marathon would never be in my cards so I congratulate you on this achievement. May all of your future goals be met with ease.
